We all have stories about friends, family, or complete strangers turning to the PS3 for their entertainment needs. Here at Year of PS3, we want to hear these stories, the proof that 2008 truly is the Year of PS3.
I’ll start off with an example of my own.
Now, my boss at my boring QA job is a pretty big movie and home theater buff. He knew what he was doing when he bought a PS3 for Christmas just a few months ago, laying the foundation for what would no doubt be an amazing 2008. Ever since, he hasn’t stopped talking about his Blu-ray movies, and the shocking amount that he purchases. “2001 and Blade Runner have never looked so good,” he once said. Just a couple of days ago, he told me he purchased the brand-new releases of Hidalgo and Unbreakable. PS3 is truly the entertainment center of the present and future. He hasn’t bought any games, but I think I’m close to convincing him of a few titles. It’s only a matter of time. Meanwhile, he bought a Wii and a bunch of games for his daughter and it’s barely touched. Smart kid. She ends up watching Blu-ray movies on their HDTV with her father instead.

The First GTA IV Review
With PS3 & Xbox comparisons:
The PS3 has a more relaxed color pallet, but this gives everything a more realistic look. If you don’t like the realistic look, and you have a HDMI connection, you can fiddle with your PS3 display settings and get it looking much more saturated. The textures are just as sharp as the 360 version, and there’s little to no pop-in or screen tearing. The PS3 takes longer to load than the 360, but I took several different head counts in game at different locations, and I always found the PS3 to be more populated than the 360. This could be attributed to the dynamic nature of the world, but it’s hard to tell. Either way, the difference was never more than five to seven pedestrians or three to four cars—it’s not really much of an advantage. The 360 is bright. Boy is it bright. Based on discussion history, this one will be claimed to look better, but it’ll really be preference. The texture quality is the same on both systems, but the 360 has a more cartoon-like look. This isn’t a bad thing. It just depends on preference. I’d compare the difference to that of Oblivion on each system. The 360 also suffers from some frame rate drops that are almost non-existent on the PS3. Installing the 360 version on your system’s hard drive, however, will bring performance almost up to par with the PS3. I know, you want details, but all I can confirm is split-screen on PS3 only.(editors note: omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I was alone, so I didn’t actually get to have any matches, but I could tell that the split-screen worked really well. There was a significant decrease in the amount of traffic and pedestrians, but it didn’t ruin anything. This is understandable. Rendering two instances of Liberty City is a chore for any machine. I can’t conclude one way or the other why the split-screen mode was not available on 360, but I assume by the drop in on-screen objects on the PS3 that the 360 just couldn’t handle it. If you own a 360, don’t worry. You have Xbox Live…so you’re set.

As most of you already know, I have been a very vocal fan of Haze. Ever since it was first shown to me at E3 2006 by one of my co-workers at the time, I knew everyone was in for a huge treat.
While development has been very up and down due to delays, and the preposterous rumor that Haze was going to the Xbox 360, the new screenshots released today by Free Radical have finally put an end to all the FUD spread by Juvenile fanboys.
Below are just a few of many new screenshots released today. To see all of the exciting new screenshots, head on over to Free Radicals official website.

Nearly 30 million homes are expected to have some sort of Blu-ray device this year, whether it’s the PS3, a PC drive, or a standalone player. PS3 is expected to drive the Blu-ray market until 2009.
According to research from U.K.-based Strategy Analytics, Blu-ray technology will find its way into 29.4 million homes worldwide by the end of this year. The firm noted that Sony’s PlayStation 3 will continue to drive adoption of the format until 2009, at which time standalone Blu-ray players are expected to become the dominant segment. What’s impressive, however, is the acceleration Strategy Analytics is forecasting for Blu-ray. By 2012, the firm believes adoption will more than quadruple to over 132 million homes, which will own at least one Blu-ray device.
“HD-DVD’s withdrawal leaves the way open for Blu-ray to become a major revenue earner for technology vendors and content owners alike,” said David Mercer, Principal Analyst. “The 265 million homes that will own an HDTV by 2012, and Hollywood’s need for a new growth engine, represent huge incentives for the industry to coordinate marketing activities and demonstrate unified support for the successor to DVD.”
The full Strategy Analytics report, titled “Blu-ray Devices: Forecasting Sales and Ownership,” predicts that by 2012, annual sales of all BD devices will reach 57.4 million units. Europe is expected to be the largest market for the format with 26.4 million, followed by the U.S. (22.6 million) and Japan (8.4 million).

One of our readers has cited that the Limited Edition gun metal gray Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 has already sold out in Japan via Konami’s Official Website. This anecdotal evidence is proof that feverish anticipation of the game is a worldwide phenomenon, not just one experienced in the United States. This may also signal the transition of last generation PS2 owners to the PlayStation 3, since many die hard fans have been on the fence with next-generation gaming, yearning for that “one” mega franchise to push them over edge. Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the breakout hit that the PS3 needs to further its position as the most widespread, technically advanced game console and media center ever created. As they say, if you build it, they will come.

According to our PSfriends at GT Planet, Sony is cutting extraneous features like “online play” and “voice chat” from GT5 Prologue in order to focus on what fans want most: delivering the most state-of-the-art, cutting-edge racing experience available on any platform. Sony even “promises” to deliver these bonus features at some unspecified date in the future. QQ more, Forza fans! The Year of PS3 continues!

A website known as 4Sceners have uploaded an image gallery of screen caps they received when they viewed an amazing in-game demo on the PlayStation 3. They said the game’s graphics were truly in-game and looked better than Crysis, KILLZONE 2, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, and Metal Gear Solid 4.
The translation is rough, but they describe the video as opening up with the PlayStation 3 logo showing. The video is called Linger in Shadows. They say the experience was so intense. The gallery features many animals, such as a huge cat showing near a Greek temple, and a dog. They say the quality is something to be desired. We have no idea if this is a game, because of translation. But if you could help us out, here is the original link.
Words cannot describe what I felt when viewing those pictures. It was as if I was born again. Spiritual rebirth and salvation.

One day during PS3’s development cycle, it gathered with all its developers for a great feast. It was there that PS3 predicted and told Capcom that it would betray PS3. The writing was on the wall, as Capcom had already developed games for Gamecube. All the publishers were shocked, and their feelings only became more pronounced as PS3 got down to wash their feet, to compensate for all the trouble they were having developing for the system. PS3’s proclamation came true when Capcom developed numerous games for 360.
As PS3 was taken away from its production to be shown before E3 2006, its fate would be left up to the publishers and the internet. After announcing the truth about its $599 price tag, the crowd began to yell, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” The invisible hand said that it saw nothing wrong with PS3, and even offered to crucify 360 instead, notorious for breaking down and leaving its owners miserable. The crowd chanted to release the 360 to them and to crucify PS3. The invisible hand even tried to talk PS3 into lowering its price behind the scenes, but PS3 would not cloud the truth. It knew it was worth the 599 American US Dollars.

The next day, PS3 was forced to carry its own cross to the mountain, and was then nailed to it. Some in the crowd spit at him, others watched in agony. Next to PS3, there were two criminals also crucified, NeoGAF and Shane Bettenhausen. The former mocked and ridiculed PS3, telling it to save itself from the cross. But Shane asked for forgiveness, as he truly believed in the $599. And PS3 forgave. But as he hung there, he yelled, “KEN! KEN! Why have you forsaken me!” The crowd that had remained understood, and comforted PS3. Hours later, PS3 gave out a loud cry and gave up its Cell processors. The earth shook and thunder boomed overhead. PS3 was dead.
But on the third year, it was yet walking the earth again in glorious triumph. The publishers and the internet realized their horrific mistake, and were overjoyed, and believed. Even Capcom released games for it, and made it the lead platform of development. PS3 was truly the savior of gaming.
And on June 12th, 2008, PS3 rose to heaven with the release of Metal Gear Solid 4.
